KSLC  Salt Lake City   -  KABQ Albuquerque

Capt. Bill Von Sennet suggests climbing to 12,500’ at 1000fpm, then descending to 10,500 after passing first set of mountains.

Off at 0900 climbing to 10500/ on a heading of 127 deg. to clear those snow covered mountains that you are staring at.  With a rate of climb of 1000' fpm, there is no problem.  By  the way meant to ask many legs ago, do you all use the cowl flaps correctly?

Well on top of the first mountain top.  I have a radio Altimeter on my plane and my co-pilot calls out all altitudes with less than 2500' ft clearance.

Just think the MSA at Albuquerque is worse, but no problem.  This area, if you recall your geography is the Continental Divide portion of the Rocky Mountains.

Provo Utah is just off to the right.

Carbon VOR 115.5  51 miles ahead.  385 miles to ABQ.

Looks like we can come down shortly, just as soon as we clear that pass ahead.  the mountain slopes down here and will start up again as we get near Gallup NM.  Ahead of us is Grand Junction, then Durango, then Gallup and then ALB.

Descend to 7500'.

Carbon County Airport right under our nose, it is at 5921'

Level at 7500

Canyon Lands VOR 109.8

Dove Creek VOR 114.6

Colorado Border about 40 miles ahead, 280 mile to ABQ

Dove Creek Canyon is 41 miles ahead a little after we cross the border.

Cortez VOR 108.4

Climb to 9500'

55 miles to Cortez

In Colorado.

Passing Dove Creek Canyon on the left

Durango VOR 108.2

Farmington VOR 115.3  (use Farmington not Durango as it is right on course).  65 miles to go to Farmington.  Passing Cortez to the left.  Durango is about 25 miles to the left.

The new Mexico border, 117 miles to go.  Albuquerque VOR 113.2 ahead.  Passing Farmington.

We are on the ABQ VOR radial 135.  This will be your base leg to the ILS.

Have you noticed the further south we go the less green?

As we pass this ridge on the right and we are 18 miles from the ABQ VOR we will start our descent to 8000' to the ABQ VOR.   Our RWY will be ILS RWY 8  111.9  H 079 deg. elev 5302.  Forgot to mention this it seems at SLC.

Have the ILS

Turning final, have the rwy.

Howdy Pard!
