OK, made it hard for myself by selecting 6/8 overcast and stiff crosswind, so that didn't help. In combination with little daylight it was apparently a little bit too much. Also no NDB readings in PARC area!!  Ended up 31 (!) miles NE of PARC, so headed back. With ATC help found field at last. Landed on vapors from 2nd selected fuel tank. (one tank to go)

Bill Hendrix, 12-24-03, KPNS-KATL, 1.36, bgas046, DC-4,s,, Non-stop to Atlanta. Everything went smooth until I started to flare for runway 27 and some clown in a 737 pulled out on the runway to take off and I had to pull up to keep from hitting him.  Went ahead and landed long and the tower never said a thing about it.  Don't think they even saw him.

Jerry Luke, 12-27-03, CYOC-CEZ2, 1.20, guest, Cessna 208B,ak,t, There were no useful navaids on this leg. I felt like I was flying blind (not to mention the sun in my eyes, though it was NICE to finally see some sun!). When I finally arrived at Chapman Lake, I circled and circled and circled trying to find the strip!! When I finally spotted it out my window, it was gone! There it is again...nope, gone again...FINALLY, after about 5 passes, and a narrow miss with the ground (50 ft), I zeroed in on it, dropped full flaps and crossed my fingers. A little beta thrust after landing and whew! Done!

Jerry Luke, 12-27-03, PARC-CYOC, .83, guest, Cessna 208B,ak,t, A very relaxing and colorful flight. Old Crow was tough to spot in the dark, and when I finally spotted it I was a bit high. Worked out ok in the end, though.

Tom Goodrick, 12-22-03, PABT PAKP, 0.58, , Cessna 208B,ak,t, I used today's date - 12/22. It was dark when I took off at 11:00am and did not improve though there was sunlight on a few peaks. The valleys stayed dark. I intended to fly a valley to another valley to PBKP. But I could not see any valleys so I climbed to 8500 feet and flew direct by NDB. About halfway (by time) I turned 30 degrees left hoping to be over the valley when the NDB pointed along 010 degrees to the runway. That was not wuite the right course. But I saw the light at the airport some distance away and flew to it. The landing went well. This should be called 'Deadmans Challenge.' Used 28 gals.
