John Lawler, 08-31-04, HTMS-HTDO, 134, bgad017, A-W Atalanta, Flew west to Arusha, then followed the main road to Dodoma. Getting the hang of the Atalanta now, and can cruise happily at 95kts at zero boost.

Bill Von Sennet, 08-31-04, htmb-flmp, 138, bgas001, AW-15, This looked to be a difficult leg of the Imperial Airways South African journey. The destination flmp (Mpika) was beyond the range of any NDB navaids.  I took off and took a heading of 222 deg.  This is slightly to the north of the most direct route - but is within range of the KS NDB 367.0 for much of the last half of the flight.  At 112 deg bearing from the station I made a visual check point of FLCS.  At a 170 deg bearing from KS I lost the signal - then turned to 171 deg to what I hoped would bring me on a downwind for runway 30.  Thirteen minutes later FLMP came into view just where I expected it!

John Lawler, 08-30-04, HKKI-HKJK, 98, bgad017, A-W Atalanta, Flown with the aid of Michelin sheet 155 (AFRICA Central & South, 63 miles: 1 inch). Not sure how old the map is, but it's got pre-independance place-names! The Atalanta is an interesting aircraft but I must sort out a fuel switch.

Robert Zolliecoffer, 08-26-04, KPIA-IL97, 37, bgam012, DHC-3, I love flying these older aircraft, this is a great airline. My computer crashed on me and I ended up loading MSFS2002pro back instead of MSFS2004, now i don't have jerkiness in the flights.

John Lawler, 08-26-04, SCAR-SCAR, 119, bgad017, Supermarine Walrus, Terribly overpowered compared with the real thing, but an interesting experience. Got lost en route (despite having made several unsuccessful visits to these parts) and then had to go-round TWICE as the Shagbat didn't want to lose speed on finals. Third time lucky, and stopped after some violent ruddering. Take-off NOT a problem, but landing back at SCAR was rather reminiscent of the Boeing 247.

Bill Hendrix, 08-26-04, PAED-KSKA, 185, bgas046, T-33A,

------------------------

John Lawler, 08-26-04, SPJL-SPNP, 17, bgad017, Lockheed Vega VC, Had to install a mag switch to the default aircraft for this one. Not one of my better landings, as we seemed to have used quite a lot of the runway with our impression of "Skippy the bush kangaroo" , but the groundsman was soon at work repairing the wicket with buckets of sawdust and the (llama-drawn) heavy roller.

John Lawler, 08-26-04, SLCC-SLLJ, 24, bgad017, Miles Master III, Not sure whether I prefer the radial Master to the inline Mk1, but they are both enjoyable to fly, with plenty of power for this sort of thing - also they have enough flaps and airbrake to cope with landing at places like SLLJ.

John Lawler, 08-26-04, SLCC-SPNP, 49, bgad017, Antonov AN-2, More ear poetry, especially at startup. It being a hot day, the Annushka wasn't that keen on climbing (perhaps I should have taken fewer passengers or left the tractor behind) but we staggered along singing revolutionary songs, and got there eventually.

John Lawler, 08-26-04, SCAR-SLCN, 47, bgad017, Fairey Battle Mk1, It would have been much quicker, but by the time my ears had been sated by the Merlin hauling us skywards, and noticed that the mountains had turned into quite small hills, we were at 26000'!

John Lawler, 08-26-04, SLCN-SPTN, 38, bgad017, Vickers Wellesley Mk1, No problems, despite having no ATA card, and yet another classic British aeroplane ticked off on my log.

Francisca Roele, 08-18-04, HEAT-HESN, 137, BGAM011, HP42E, I really thought I already had flown this route, but the records told me different. I guess the landscape and everything just looked a lot like the previous route and it got me on the wrong track, having had pre-planned the flight didn't help my confusion either ;) I'm really missing two gauges and I'm going to update the current one. I wasn't really happy with aliasing, because I do like to try and fly in the cockpit that fits the plane best.

Norm Holman, 08-14-04, HSMM-HSSJ,240, bgad026, HP E42, Imperial leg 13 of the S.African Route. Weather was clear from here on. Arrived at Juba, with it's lonely little hill for an overnight stop.
