General
Air Lines ‘34

General Air Lines was the name used by Western Air express
for a short period round 1934. At this time GAL were operating DC-2 aircraft,
having been operators of Boeing 247 aircraft before and then DC-3 aircraft
after this period.
Western Air Express started out as a buy-out of General
Motors interest in the route from Los Angeles to Salt Lake City. This was
initially extended to San Diego. As the airline grew it was renamed to Western
Airlines.
At the time the timetable also listed connecting flights
through to Great Falls via Alfred Frank Lines, Minneapolis and St Paul via
Northwest Airlines, Cheyenne and Denver by Wyoming Air Services and Chicago and
New York via United Air Lines. They also connected to TWA services from Coast to
Coast.
The routes
directly served by GAL were taken from a timetable from 1934 which is displayed
on www.timetableimages.com .
