Pacific
Southwest Airlines ‘59

Pacific Southwest Airlines was founded in 1949 to provide
services between San Diego, Los Angeles and San Francisco. In 1988 it was
bought out by USAir, and is now considered to be one of the four pre-cursors of
the modern US Airways, along with America West Airlines, Piedmont Airlines and
Allegheny Airlines.
PSA’s slogan was that it was “The world’s Friendliest
Airline”, and the discount fares available to military personnel travelling to
San Diego also earned it the nickname, “The Poor Sailor’s Airline”. The LA
Times stated that PSA were,” practically California’s unofficial in-state
airline for almost 40 years.”
The
routes served by PSA were taken from a timetable from 1959 which is displayed
on www.timetableimages.com .
