*************************************

SUMMARY.

The two 1700hp Pratt & Whitney R-2800-CB16 Double Wasp engines are carburetted and highly supercharged to give rated power up to 14500 feet. 2400hp is available for take off (at sea level) and for two minutes in case of emergency using water/methanol injection. METO power is 1800hp to 8,500 feet. The constant speed propellers can be feathered and have reverse pitch. Automixture control is provided, but may be overidden.

Maximum fuel load is 1370 US gallons. All fuel burn figures are indicative. Adjust fuel and payload using the weight and balance schedule of aircraft.cfg

The landing gear is NOT approved for use from unpaved surfaces.

HANDLING THE AIRCRAFT

****************************

Take Off (with water/meth injection):

BRAKES = ON

MIXTURE = AUTO in realism screen

CARB HEAT = COLD

COWL FLAPS = MID

TRIM = 30% NOSE UP

FLAP = STAGE 1

CALL for TOGA POWER  (2400hp)

PROPS FULLY FINE

Slowly apply FULL THROTTLE

This will invoke water/meth injection giving 59.5 inches MAP

ROTATE = 107 KIAS   (@ 44900lbs)

Establish positive rate of climb

GEAR = UP

ACCELERATE > 130 KIAS <= 500 ft/min

CLIMB 200 feet AGL

FLAP = UP

CALL for METO Power (1800hp)

MAP = 45 inches

RPM = 2600

ACCELERATE = 140 KIAS <= 500 ft/min

Clear of all obstacles

CALL for Climb power (1400hp)

***********************************

Max Climb: (1500hp)

COWL FLAPS - MID

39 inches MAP

MAINTAIN CRUISE RPM

REDUCE MAP @ 3 inches per minute

*****************************

Holding:

FLAP - UP

CALL for endurance power (600hp)

COWL FLAPS - CRACKED

2100 RPM

Slowly REDUCE MAP

To obtain 130 KIAS

but MINIMUM 23 inches MAP for holding

Check CHT < 232C

Plan 120 USG per hour
