OPERATION BAGHDAD AIRLIFT

 

To alleviate the congestion of ships heading to Iraq via the Suez Canal, we expect an airlift to be established linking Mediterranean Ports with Baghdad, Iraq.

 

 

 

Flight bgba-1  from Alexandria, Egyt to Baghdad.  Can be flown with any aircraft.  I have tested the route with a DC-6B at 9,500’ and with a DeHavalland Comet at 29,000’

Return flights can be used with the same enroute nav-aids, but altitudes should be in accordance with the standards:

Rules for altitude to fly

IFR East (heading 360-179) Odd thousands i.e. 3,000 5,000 etc up to 27,000
IFR West (heading 180-359) Even thousand i.e. 4,000 6,000 etc up to 28,000
VFR East add 500’ i.e. 3,500, 5,500 etc up to 17,500
VFR West add 500' i.e. 4,500 6,500 etc. up to 16,500

All flights above 18,000' are flown IFR with altimeter set at 29.92
Flights at 29,000' and above are flown at 2,000' increments.
