Rules for altitude to fly
IFR East (heading 360-179) Odd thousands i.e. 3,000 5,000
etc up to 27,000
IFR West (heading 180-359) Even thousand i.e. 4,000 6,000 etc up to 28,000
VFR East add 500’ i.e. 3,500, 5,500 etc up to 17,500
VFR West add 500' i.e. 4,500 6,500 etc. up to 16,500
All flights above 18,000' are flown IFR with altimeter set at 29.92
Flights at 29,000' and above are flown at 2,000' increments.
