In the latest edition of Computer Pilot magazine there is an article about "World Flight 2007"  This is an annual RTW event flown by a bunch of people all over the globe to raise money for charities, various.   It is flown, by the book, under the eagle eye of ATC, 24/7 and takes about a week to complete the circumnavigation from Sydney Oz.  Through the Phillipines, China, Russia, Greece, the Middle East, North Africa, Portugal, Prague, Amsterdam, UK, Iceland, Canada, Eastern USA (past Tom's doorstep), the Caribbean, Mexico City, AZ, AK, back into Russia, Japan, Thailand, Manila, Indonesia, Western Australia and home to Sydney via Adelaide and Melbourne.

Seems that the majority of entrants are set up with elaborate simulators, some of them full motion.  Each base has enlisted a team of pilots so that flying can continue 'round the clock.  The first aircraft is due to roll at 2300z on November 4 and finish the 43 flights around 0910z on Nov 11.

They will all be flying kero (paraffin) burning upholstered tunnels.  I got hooked on the idea of having a look at the course and thought that if I did the flights in a Super Connie, on my own, I would have to start about two weeks ago.  Oh well !  Today I flew the first leg to Darwin, no ATC, real weather, real time.  Maybe if I keep at it I might be able to finish by Christmas.   Actually it is about 147 to 150 hours Roll Eyes

A charity ?   The Aussie teams are supporting the Royal Flying Doctor Service and as they did such a great job of getting Nicole's busted ankles 530 NM from Paraburdoo to Perth I thought I would toss a few bucks their way and if any of you avid fliers feel so inclined, don't be shy as the RFDS does a  great job for locals and visitors alike.  The country is so vast we would be in trouble without them.
